Service Coordinators
Charlene Farmer
Eastside Veterinary Associates’ Service Coordinator Charlene Farmer has worked with us since February of 2009, but has been involved with the veterinary field since working with Dr. Hung at another practice in 2003. “I love the high standard of care that the doctors and all of our staff maintain,” she says of her work with us. “I bring all my pets here and know that every pet that comes in the door will receive the very best care.”
Charlene has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Washington and is currently studying to go back to school this fall. With more than 10 years of administrative experience, she says an important part of her job is keeping things calm and organized even on the most hectic days. Beyond that, she is responsible for scheduling appointments, checking patients in and out, answering client questions, ordering hospital supplies and snuggling with our cute patients.
Charlene and her husband share their home with two dogs and two cats, all rescued from local shelters. In her spare time she enjoys camping, hiking, reading, and exploring the great Pacific Northwest.
Tiffany Vaughan
I am a California girl at heart, but I have been fortunate to live in a lot of very different places. My latest adventure brings me to the Pacific Northwest from Maui. I have been married for 13 years and have two biological children, two bonus children who are now adults and live here as well, and last but not least we have a Jack Russell Mix, Scubi. I have been in the animal care industry for about 16 years. My career started as a kennel attendant, then as the manager. I went on to work as a veterinary assistant and fell in love with it. I am lucky to have been trained on the job and cannot see myself doing anything else but working with animals and the people who care for them. In my spare time, I spend as much time with my family as possible, but I also enjoy scrapbooking, bead working, camping, kayaking or reading a really good book!
Veterinary Technicians
Mary Fix Hofilena
Licensed Veterinary Technician Mary Fix-Hofilena has been with Eastside Veterinary Associates since October 2008 and has been working in the animal care field since 2006. She earned her Veterinary Technician License for Washington State when she started working with Dr. Hung in 2001. She is certified by the American Society of Veterinary Dental Technicians and attends continuing education in dentistry as well as other areas of veterinary medicine.
Asked what she enjoys most about her work, Mary says “The friendly, warm, family environment to work in. We get to come to work each day knowing we are providing excellent care for our patients.”
At home, Mary has a Border Collie mixed breed dog named Slyder, three cats named Divot, Bogie, and Mulligan. She recently added a flock of chickens to her backyard. She spends her days off volunteering at her son and daughter’s school, and shuffling them to various activities. Mary enjoys cooking, swimming, hiking, golf, biking, and reading.
Sally Tolliver
Licensed Veterinary Technician Sally Tolliver joined the staff at Eastside Veterinary Associates when the hospital first opened in October of 2008, and has been working in the pet care field for more than 20 years. She says she knew from an early age that she wanted to work with animals and at age 16 landed her first job working at a local veterinary hospital.
While working at the Humane Society, Sally earned an Associate’s Degree in Animal Technology from Pierce College in 1996. Throughout the years she has worked at area general veterinary practices or for organizations providing low-cost spay and neuter services. With her wealth of experience, she is responsible for a wide variety of medical care services, which she says helps make her job interesting each day.
Asked what she enjoys most about her work at Eastside Vet, Sally says, “I have worked with or known the staff here for years. They are all intelligent and compassionate people that make it very easy and fun to come to work here.” Her own pets are a Chihuahua mix named Mickey and a cat named Turbo. In her spare time, Sally enjoys gardening and chasing around her two young kids.
Dana Lieu
Veterinary Assistant Dana Lieu has been with Eastside Veterinary Associates since March 2010 and working within the pet care field since 2007. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from Seattle University, and also works as an assistant to a dressage trainer at a local equestrian facility. She has always had a special place in her heart for animals and working with them for the last few years increased her desire to pursue veterinary medicine.
Her primary duties include holding animals for blood draws, X-rays, and exams as well as sending out specimens for lab testing, checking clients in and organizing supplies and equipment. “I love working here because everyone cares about doing the best job they can while maintaining efficiency and friendliness,” she says. “The facilities are immaculate, the equipment is current, and the client base is wonderful. Plus, everyone here loves animals and can empathize with the patients and their owners.”
At home Dana has a Miniature Pinscher named Dante and a Green Cheeked Conure named Puffin. Her hobbies include horseback riding, reading, kayaking, and watching movies. This fall she will be starting her first year at veterinary school at Washington State University.
